The essence of the electrical tools and equipments in the electrical repairs needs to be kept in mind while framing the electrical safety setup. While the basic tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, cutters, testers etc. are regular in the scheme of things, certain associative equipments such as digital multi-meter, solder iron etc. can’t be neglected.
Besides the basic electrical tools, there are certain helping devices that complement the success of an electrical repair. One such equipment is a solder iron.
A solder machine package consists of a solder wire, a solder iron and an optional flux paste. The solder unit renders an electrical connection between two metal segments with the help of melted solder composition. While the solder iron melts the solder, the solder element rigidifies as a connection between two constituting electrical units.
The solder is a composition of tin (60 percent) and lead (40 percent). Some solder comes pre-combined with flux core element as well. If however, it doesn’t contain the flux core then a separate unit of flux paste needs to be brought in.
Initialize the soldering operation by cleaning the tip of the solder iron equipment. Generally, the homeowners don’t clean the tip of the machine after the soldering operation. Hence, the solder material keeps sticking to the iron tip and oxidizes into a stringent deposit. Before you apply the solder, clean off such deposit from the tip. Heat the concerned solder iron and rub its tip against a damp sponge.
Clean off the joining surfaces of the two metal segments as well. Hold the solder iron and switch it on. Let it heat up and once it is heated, apply it on the concerned joint. Don’t overheat the work segment and take off the solder iron after a lapse of 2 seconds.
Make way for the solder and rest its leading end to the heated face of the metal segments. Allow the melted solder to flow into the concerned joint. Keep a metal sheet under the work piece and make sure that the solder doesn’t drip on the floor.
Take off the solder iron and allow the joined segment to cool off. Don’t blow air on the heated juncture to enhance the cooling as that may lead to a weak electrical structure. Instead, allow the soldered joint to cool naturally and don’t interfere in the process.
